Description Colorized photo from 1943 JanOriginal title: In the waiting room of the Union StationPhotographer: Jack Delano Location: 225 South Canal Street Chicago, IL This is Union Station in Chicago, during WW2. Normally there would be a lot of light spilling into this huge space, as there is a large skylight in the ceiling. But during the war, they blacked it out so the enemy couldn't see the building from a plane. As a result, the only real source of lights were those side windows, which at the right time of day, filled the room with that majestic sun light. Now I can't tell if that was the sun or a large outside light, because of the light spread the sun would have to be very close to the building. It might have to do with the angle of the sun. In any case, it must have created a really fun mood, though be it dark. The windows are still there today, but because they removed all the paint from that skylight in 1991, there is so much light in there, that any sort of sun beam would probably be washed out.
