Description A digitally mastered photograph. 'When a woman is raped, it takes so much courage and support from others for her to speak out about her experience. Numerous faceless victims can only find their strength to move on after their agonizing and extensive confrontation with their past. Voice. Heard. is a digital representation of what a victim goes through as she replays the rape over and over again in her mind (2006)'
E.J. Yoshioka, Tokyo, Japan Member Since July 2007 Artist Statement My art is about the co-existence of two very different cultures on a single dimension. I am an American and Japanese citizen, born and raised in Japan. My art reflects this mishmash of cultures that has been rooted deeply in my unconscious mind. My imagination is effected by how I directly identify with my heritage. The themes of my art consist of surreal fantastic elements in detail. Small stories underlie in each painting and drawing. Oil and acrylic have their own textures and vibrancy to me and this influences how I use colors in art. My hands are only a vessel in documenting my imagination. ~E.J. Yoshioka
