Artist Statement P H i L T U R N E R

My return to painting started in 2009 with a series of digital studies created using my iphone, a set of chalk pastels and a moleskin sketchbook.

I started observing those visual moments that pass so quickly and began living in the here and now, a series of compositions followed quickly.

Influences: J.M.W.Turner, Valette, Lowry, Mondrian, Picasso, Rothko, Hockney.

Art Movements: Impressionism, De Stijl, Futurism, Cubism, Modernism.

David Hockney: "Secret Knowledge" Has played an import part in my work, and I am now exploring and demonstrating the link between traditional painting and self expression using digital art as a first medium.

The exaggerated pixels play a part in breaking the subject down into shape, form, and basic colour. Creating a style of Digital Cubism, and Pointillism.

I am now working on my digital studies and creating traditional screen prints and painting ... (more to follow) ... the progression of my artwork is now available as digital prints.
