Description Inks Lake State Park is located adjacent to Inks Lake on the Colorado River and the Highland Lakes chain. If you look closely at the granite, you will see areas that are covered in flaky or crust-like, yellow-green to green patches. This is lichen, which are interesting organisms that literally eat stone, turning rock into dirt. The lichen produces a chemical that breaks down the rock and over many years produces enough soil for other organisms to grow.
