These paintings initially began as an attempt to paint, from memory, something i had seen out the window on a road trip, earlier in the day. What began as simplification due to a bad memory began to evolve into a minimal, reductive, compositional style: I'm not concerned with specifics in these paintings, but rather see the ocean and the land as a theater for light, space and color. I find that contemplating the ocean always makes me feel quiet and small, and hope that these paintings pass along that meditative experience. I live in San Francisco, and for those familiar with the coast in this area, I think you will find something resonant in these paintings.
