Current Gallery: oilpaintings ( piece)
Having lived in rural Virginia my entire adult life, I am inspired by the natural beauty around me, and have been very inspired while traveling with family and friends. I am fascinated with philosophy, history, archeology, and cultures. Rural in subject, my paintings reveal the landscape was touched by man, even if only a dirt road carving its way or a fence dividing one plot from another, showing that land has been touched by man and vice versa. Like many of my local contemporaries, I enjoy capturing the more pastoral landscapes, perhaps it's escapism and retreating from the constant activities and technology of modern life; the constant exposure to television, internet, cell phones, etc., a lifestyle where instant gratification is right here, right now! Although those are not just urban activities, they seem to be more easily avoided in the country. The pace is a bit slower. Artists choose to escape and take the viewer with them interpreting the artist’s own experience of meditation and oneness with her subject. In early 21st century: A time where nostalgia and technology merge. There are less and less rural areas, however many still want a piece of land to call their own before it’s too late. Old farms and woodland areas are being replaced by subdivisions, malls, shopping strips, super stores, and pre-planned communities. The natural landscape is becoming a thing of the past, being replaced with professional landscape and architectural designs.
