Artist Statement I began my interest and studies as classically trained painter at The Art Students League of New York, at the age of 12 years old, 1978. There I concentrated on the anatomy and nude drawing with Gustav Reighberger, and continued with a variety of studio teachers until I was in my late twenties. My passion for the figure and color, attracted me to artists: Oskar Kokoschka, George Grosz, Picasso, Gorky.
It wasn't until I met artist Lorenza Boettner of Germany, that I realized that with all my classic training, I had no thread or direction. It was then and there, that I knew in order to live up to all my artistic mentors, I must prevail as an individualist and never give up the philosophy that the colors and lines within my work are enough to tell the whole story to the viewer. There need not be any gimmicks, just the raw materials and an artist intension and energy within the works itself. Animal energy, justifies the meaning and reason for any and all works of art, without it (animal energy), you may as well go back to sleep.
