Candace N'Diaye, Knoxville, TN Member Since June 2014 Artist Statement I’ve always loved art in all it’s forms. As a child, I would spend countless hours drawing, coloring and painting.
Photography is another interest I adopted at an early age. I think I was about 8 when I got my first camera. Needless to say, I’ve never been without one since.
When painting, I love creating abstracts. I love being able to figure out what something means for me, and ponder what it may have meant (if anything) for the artist who created it. I love the texture, the color play — all of it. I love that it isn’t so obvious, that it isn’t telling you what it’s about. That it makes you feel, it makes you think.
My art is influenced by many things, most readily: my daily experiences, my travels & love of different cultures, and the natural world. My paintings range from purely abstract (focusing on texture, color play, and graphic design elements) to more figuratively abstract, with an emphasis on flora or animals, mysticism/spiritual or sacred themes, foreign culture, and dancing figures.
