Artist Statement Hello and thanks for stopping by!
A bit about me: Nature is my One True Love.
I never grow tired of looking for ways to capture the beauty and variety of subjects the natural world offers. Gardening is one of my big passions, up there with making art. (In spring, I'm the first one on the block with a bowl of pansies on the deck and the last one to give in to Jack Frost in fall.)
Although most of my working life has been spent in the corporate world, I've been drawing since I was old enough to hold a pencil. In school I was introduced to the usual fine-art background of pen-and-ink, scratchboard, charcoal, oil, acrylic and watercolor painting techniques; I also enjoyed working in clay and printmaking.
Digital photography is the latest thing for me since buying myself a digital camera for my Mother's Day 'gift to me' a few years ago. In addition to shooting pictures of the flora & fauna that populate my gardens and nearby forest preserves, I enjoy writing (now for a living), doing beadwork, gourdcrafting, making lamp-worked glass beads, manipulating fiber and 'found' objects into what I call 'wearable art', sculpting in polymer clay, and of course, drawing - preferably with colored pencils. I love spending time with family and friends and going to Faires and festivals.
In my free time in the winter I can be found either in my studio, cross-country skiing in the nearby forest preserves, browsing through seed catalogs & daydreaming of spring. Once the weather warms, my free time is divided between my yard & gardens and turning my deck into an outdoor studio, with the camera always close at hand!
I hope you enjoy my offerings as much as I did producing them. Come back soon!
