Artist Statement Canadian digital watercolour painter Joan A Hamilton paints traditional subjects in an untraditional way. Her website features her online gallery of nature landscapes, flowers and still life paintings. All are painted from scratch without the use of filters or special effects. Her blog features many tutorials and small demonstrations of her digital watercolour painting techniques with Corel Painter 11. She talks about the ups and downs of being an emerging digital painter on her art journey. Her art is regularly featured on the art and photography site Red Bubble where she co-hosts a group called Fine Art Digital Painters. She is also an avid member of the Painter Talk Forum. Joan's paintings can also be found on Flickr, ArtWanted and Fine Art America. Her beautiful art has been described as elegant, but down to earth. Her use of colour and light bring a fresh and vibrant look to her painting subjects, and people continually express amazement that her art is painted digitally. A love of art and a need to paint have led Joan to this relatively new creative process. Although she is primarily untaught; she has begun to master the skill of using digital watercolours and is reaching one of her goals which is to produce art that is affordable and appealing.
