Description I painted this from an old black and white photo of the legendary blues musician Robert Johnson of 'Crossroads' fame.Robert Johnson was born May 8, 1911, in Hazlehurst, Mississippi. Legend has it that Robert made a deal with the Devil; in exchange for his soul he wanted to play the guitar better than anyone. This legend is based, in part, on Johnsons recording of Crossroads Blues, which tells the story of him standing at the crossroads trying to flag a ride. In Deep South mythology, one went to a crossroads at night if they wanted to make a deal with the Devil.
Randy Hill, Austin Member Since April 2007 Artist Statement I am a graphic designer, musician and fine artist. I also have a love for photography. I have been fortunate to have been able to use my talents and skills in the workplace for the last 31 years. My favorite graphic designer is Gerard Huerta. My friend and extremely talented digital illustrator, Von Glitschka, is a big inspiration. I really enjoy the work of Jesus Helguera, a legendary artist from Mexico who was popular in Mexico and neighboring states, Texas and California in the mid 20th century.
My favorite types of music are blues, rock, classic country and conjunto. Musicians and music are frequently subjects in my fine art.
