Cynthia McGarry, Venice Member Since June 2016 Artist Statement Fine artist Cynthia (Cindy) Mott McGarry has been using oils to capture local landscapes, flora and seascapes since 1988. Growing up in Cincinnati, Ohio as a third generation artist, she was encouraged from a young age to paint. Cindy remembers being mesmerized by the many beauties and fascinations of the colors and textures in our world. At five years old her mother enrolled Cindy in classes at the Cincinnati Museum of Art and her desire to create has continued throughout her life.
Cindy is a graduate of Cincinnati’s Central Academy of Commercial Art (currently Cincinnati Academy of Design) where she studied under noted American artist, Jackson Grey “Pop” Storey. Cindy is a devoted student of impressionism and reflected light. After moving to Raleigh, North Carolina in 1987 she participated in Visual Art Exchange (formerly Wake Visual Art) group exhibitions, travelling shows and has had solo exhibits at Local Color Gallery and The Cotton Company in Wake Forest. She has donated a percentage of her profits to Susan G. Komen for cancer education and research. Her paintings have been exhibited in area businesses and in the Capital Legislative Building offices. Cindy lived in North Carolina for 30 years and in 2017 moved to Florida and is enjoying painting the natural beauty and surroundings.
“With the beauty of nature as my guide, I truly enjoy expressing my view of the world around us with color and movement. Communicating to others through my imagination is an ongoing joy in creativity and sharing.”
