Artist Statement I was born in the UK IN 1951 in Ormskirk near Liverpool and I have since lived in four countries Solomon Islands, Australia and I am now living in Lake Coleridge, Canterbury in New Zealand
I attended Art school in Brisbane where I got some of my basic training before being let loose on the business world in the soft furnishings trade.
I describe my work as 'chaotic realism', it is where I imitate the process of nature (wind. rain. gravity etc.) rather than imitate nature literally. The seemingly controled accidental events create their own realism, which is creation.
The above definition is a departure of what most people would consider 'abstract', a true abstraction is starting from representational art and taking away all the superficial elements leaving the essence. Mondrian is a good example of this in his depictions of a tree.
So I paint by creating a series of 'accidents' in a similar way to Jackson Pollock, but I put all those "accidents' in sequences of progressive development.
You will notice this process when you view my work, so I hope that you enjoy viewing my work.
