Artist Statement Bright, textured colours come to mind when viewing the paintings by Tracey-Ann Morris.
Born as Tracey-Ann Smith from Perth, Western Australia, Tracey-Ann showed artistic talent from the age of 2, insisting she make drawings underneath the tables and furniture in the house, and on the walls. By the age of 12, Tracey-Ann was running art classes to her fellow primary school students.
Technology has played a large role in Tracey-Ann's life, learning to programme at 10 years of age. She had to wait another 10 years before she could join fine arts and computers together which initially came about as part of her Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education, majoring in fine arts, and computing.
Art and technology came even closer together in a Master of Arts in Electronic Arts from the Australian National University, Canberra. Tracey-Ann concentrated on web design, interactive multimedia and electronic art on the one side, and still did commission paintings for a number of Canberra clients on the other side. Somewhere in between she found the time to teach electronic arts to undergraduates, graduates and adult education classes ant ANU.
Once university was completed, Tracey-Ann returned to Perth, continued to work and paint commissions, then travelled and lived in the United Kingdom for 3 years, doing web and interactive multimedia work (and yes, painting in her spare time). A body of work on Western Australian landscapes was completed in Oxfordshire and exhibited in London in 2004.
Tracey-Ann returned to Perth shortly after and quickly set about working in IT and taking on more commissions for friends. A new body of work on Western Australian landscapes started in 2009 which has led to an interest in Satellite Art, using Google Earth as a main tool when not flying.
Abstract painting has now led to works of abstract expressionism, making inner connections with nature, colour, light, energy movement and the cosmos.
