Description This is a photograph of one of my sculptures. Initially, I only hung it from the tree in order to get a good picture of the sculpture. However, I ended up actually liking the image of it 'floating' in the garden above the ferns almost as much as the sculpture itself.

Artist Statement I remember it well. The year was 2002 and I'd had it. Ready to leave my corporate job behind without having another, I sought 'professional' help in order to get the validation I needed for quitting. "What did you used to do for fun as a child?" she asked as I sat there looking at the books on her bookcase noticing that I had read about half of them. "I used to draw," I said and I told her of the countless hours I spent drawing princesses and eyeballs. "You need more child-like joy in your life. I think you should try painting." Painting? OK. So I bought a set of paints, some paper and brushes and, you guessed it- I found my joy. And in case you're wondering, I did end up leaving that company (a year later). And, yes, I am still working in the corporate world. But now I'm an ARTIST who happens to also have a day job and, ironically, I have my old day job to thank.
