Artist Statement I am a collector of inspiration. My inspiration often comes from people via stories, experience, and observation. I have a large collection, yet a finite space in which to house it. In order to keep close tabs on it, but also make room for more, I use a process to transform it that I call art.
Art is my metaphor for what can't be directly translated through oral communication. I create art to alleviate an overwhelming sense of my mynd filling up. I love the dynamic process of creation: starting from an invisible idea and building over time into a complete living breathing tangible entity. I watch myself in the process, seeing what changes and what stays the same and how I feel about it as it approaches a sensation of completeness - integrated, and balanced.
Patterns in my work include geometric shapes, humans in their most natural and sometimes vulnerable states, hearts, and the juxtaposition of imagery and text/language/word. Contrasted by the global and personal politics of how and why, we often create barriers and obstacles between our fellow humans and ourselves. Through my work, I explore the crossroads of human commonality and other-ing. What unites us as humans? What separates us? What do we do with our short lives on this planet? What kind of stories do we have to tell?
It is my hope that my art not only tells its own story, but causes viewers to: think, ask more questions, birth new responses, and cultivate inspiration.
