Description For better than 75 years, the bridges of Chicago were operated by a regular crew of bridge tenders, men (almost always) who were responsible for opening the spans to allow passage of sailboats, cargo barges, and other shipping traffic. The position was greatly minimized with the advent of automation, and now there are crews that work to open/close them in a kind of leapfrog fashion.
F. J. Sochacki Jr, Chicago Member Since May 2007 Artist Statement My name is Frank. I believe that wherever you may find yourself, there is something worth photographing; the hard part is being able to see it.
I began taking pictures a Pocket Instamatic, moving through various formats to 35mm as I grew older. My transition to digital began with a 1-setting 0.3 megapixel on closeout for $25. I continued to work with both film & digital, transitioning to a dSLR.
My hope is that as you look through the gallery you will find something which inspires you to look more closely around and see the beauty in the small, often overlooked details.
