Duhamel Xolot, Valdivia, Chile
Member Since June 2019
Artist Statement Duhamel Xolot was born in Havana City in 1971. Having grown up in a family of artists he started drawing and painting since his early childhood. Suggested and encouraged at school, formal art education started soon, from weekly courses for juniors to a Fine Arts High School Academia.

After completing college, he followed the steps of his father in the graphic design field, taking courses and working on small projects. Graphic Design was one of his early passions and it is a permanent influence in his work.

Since the beginning his oil paintings were deeply marked by the realistic style learned during the years of academia, evolving to a delicate and personal approach to photorealism in a harmonic balance between the pictorial and the photographic. His urban scenes or cityscapes from Havana is a subject that Duhamel has cultivated for many years, and he largely exhibited his paintings in Canada, where he went back to school obtaining a Graphic Design Degree at Concordia University.

Applying the digital tools for sketching opened a new way of a narrative and more experimental artwork and conceptual art began to develop. His most recent artwork combines graphic design, humor, and contemporary art in constant research and investigation.

In 2015 he cofounded Studio O'208 as an alternative art space in the days of the 12th Havana Biennial. The Studio proved to be a vibrant and successful art venue shared by three artists. A permanent art gallery and workshop was established at the heart of Old Havana. Today he is the social media manager an active collaborator.

He currently resides in Chile, in the city of Valdivia, where he has been actively involved in the local art scene, organizations and art prizes, developing and producing his most recent and ambitious project entitled reDADA.
