Description Colorized photo from 1942, AprilOriginal title: In the Perfect Eat Shop, restaurantPhotographer: Jack DelanoLocation: 410-412 E. 47th St., Chicago, ILLocated in Bronzeville, this cafe belonged to a black owner by the name of Earl Morris. It was known as the Morris Perfect Eats Shop. In its day it was considered an exclusive 'eat shopped', as they called cafe's in the day. It was very possible you may run into a black congressmen, or even a former heavyweight champion, Jack Jackson. There was a private room in the back for civic leaders both black and white, planning reforms. It had a modernistic flair that seemed to have changed every few years or so, according to postcards. They would primarily change the wall decor and paint, while keeping the chairs and the tables the same colors. This was the last last time this place was called the Perfect eats shop, after this it was known as the Morris Maroon Lounge, which looked just like this, but in maroon. Its possible that the stone faced man in the back, is Mr Morris, who seems both camera shy, and not at the same time.
