Description CALIFORNIA'S GOLD by Lynn Bauer was taken on the Santa Monica Mountain Recreational Area trails in Thousand Oaks, California. This area is called Rancho Sierra Vista / Satiwa, and is part of a large area of hiking trails that start in the upper reaches of these hills and drop down to the Boney Mountain Wilderness area and Pt. Mugu State Park, ultimately ending at the Pacific Ocean. The spring wildflowers are starting to put on a good show this year, in spite of the deep drought that we have seen in California. A few good spring showers have given these hills life, and for now, California's Gold is found in the pretty spring flowers, rather than the dry golden grasses that will surely follow!Seen here are tiny little goldfields that cover the ground and orange pops of California's state flower...the California poppy. If you look closely, you may be able to spot an occasional owl's clover to red indian paintbrush that were also strewn throughout the area.
