Artist Statement Daniel Gutierrez uses metal as a canvas for his artwork. Daniel uses continuous layers of paint to build up a foundation of textures. The use of textures creates a three dimensional sculptural effect to his two dimensional paintings. Daniel incorporates air machinery, paint brushes, and chemical reactions in his art. Daniel believes he can bring the two worlds of realism and sculpture art work together on a two dimensional surface.
Born 1991 in Los Angeles, California, as a child, Daniel searched for a path to be an artist as a career. Doing only graphite and charcoal drawings until the age of 19, Daniel found himself without money and a child on the way. Daniel spent a year in a tattoo shop being mentored by tattoo artists specializing in black and grey artwork. Feeling unsatisfied, Daniel decided to look for a different path. At the end of his apprenticeship Daniel was given his first opportunity to paint a mural on a company building. The owner of the company bought Daniel his first airbrush gun. Throughout the years Daniel built up his skills as an airbrusher, transferring his fine art knowledge into his airbrush artwork.
The world of airbrushing took Daniel down a path into painting motorcycles, cars, and airplanes. Until one day, Daniel realized how he would be able to use his paint and varnishes to incorporate the use of his previous work into his fine art. With many ideas in mind, Daniel experimented with the buildup of his paints as a way to create textural backgrounds and adding realistic brush work. This new style that Daniel has created has given him opportunities to work with celebrities, galleries, and other fine artists. Daniel currently works as an artist assistant to provide for his family.
