Artist Statement Artist Statement: My reaction to the spirit of the locale influences how I attack the canvas, what tools I use, what colors I choose. I do not want to be a slave to the obvious so what you see in my work is my impression of that moment in time. Subjects such as flip flops start a narrative that I want the viewer to complete. Since I prefer not to use brushes for large paintings until it's time for the final touches, I rely on spackle knives, pallet knives, and pouring techniques. Acrylics work well with this format because of their versatility but I'm also very fond of oils.
