Marie Hedtke, South Haven, Minnesota Member Since April 2009 Artist Statement About me...
When I was a little girl, I remember taking special walks with my mother. She'd always choose the railroad tracks near our home. To pass the time, I would play a game with myself to see how far I could jump to the next railroad tie. When I'd catch up with her, she'd be deep in the bushes picking something to take back home, such as wild raspberries, plums, gooseberries, grapes, asparagus, mushrooms, or the rare black walnut. If there were no pickings that day, a wild bouquet of flowers would always suffice and adorn the kitchen table. Her keen eye of nature would always amaze me!
It's my desire to bring meaningful memories to others in my photography.
My father also contributed to my love of art through his auto body work. He'd repair vehicles that had seen better days. Every vehicle would become a flawless work of art. I remember sitting for hours in the garage watching him work. He'd start by grinding off all the old paint, then apply the primer and finish with a new coat of paint. An immaculate image could be seen in the reflection of the glossy paint. This was a huge event from start to finish. The result would be an entirely new vehicle!
This is the standard that I seek in creating my works of art.
