Dan Ward, Oakton
Member Since December 2007
Artist Statement Dan Ward uses a combination of advanced imaging techniques to create candid portraits that capture displays of affection, deep thought, joy and contemplation. His landscapes seek contrasts and interesting alignments, while his nature photographs explore a different perspective of the world around us. Dan does limited commissioned portraits, but only of people who are characters in their own right.

Dan's photos have received awards in a variety of photography shows including the 2015, 2014, 2012, 2011, and 2010 Nature Visions Shows; the 2006, 2008, and 2009 Meadowlark Photo Expo (Kodak’s Sponsors Choice award in 2006); On Your Own Time art shows in Dallas (People’s Choice Awards in 2004 and 2006); the 2007 Claude Moore Nature Photo Expo, the Ellipse Gallery 2007 Top Photos of the Past 75 Years and various community art shows in Virginia, Texas, Connecticut and Arizona.

The images in the Phoetry series combine traditional poetry or haiku with photography. Some of these images came from collaboration with the poet, Dr. Catherine Sweeney Burton. Their joint books, "Emerge" and "Plane of Life", are available from Blurb. Dan's solo phoetry work is found in the books, "Tribute" and "Here There Be Dragons" which are also available on Blurb, Amazon and Apple iBooks.

Dan recently retired as the Chief Workforce Economist for the MITRE Corporation. He is the senior editor of AMACOM's 2013 collection on strategic workforce planning, "POSITIONED" as well as the HRPS 1995 book, "Best Practices in HR Forecasting and Modeling."
