Artist Statement As a child I first developed my love for drawing. As an artist I have learned various ways to improve the expression of my ideas on paper and in other media. At this time the majority of my artwork deal with subjects pertaining to activities and experiences that have profoundly influenced my life. I have now taken my investigations in drawing into the digital studio in an attempt to explore how computers can expand my artistic possibilities. In many of my early artworks I tended more toward representational works but my more recent works are more abstract and refined. Through digital tools I have expressed my ideas in new ways and have also begun to develop a personal style in my work. Each of my projects often consists of multiple works, often in range of different media grouped around specific themes and meanings. My artwork takes critical views of things that are important to me in my life: faith in Jesus Christ, where I’m from, family, music, emotions, personal goals in life, and various encounters that have affected me. In digital arts classes I learned about, and became fascinated with, optical illusions and how such images play with the mind. Through my interest in op art I have began to create work that uses illusions as abstract forms derived from “techno trance/progressive music.” My new ideas are often formulated through listening to this type of music.
