Artist Statement John Davis is a self taught artist who has toyed with watercolour and found that it was not bold enough for his style of work. After moving on to oils he has progressed from simply copying hackneyed scenes to producing individual work that invites the viewer to stop and ask questions. Some viewers will ask different questions and all viewers will have different answers. Yours may be different on different days! The colors are bold but controlled and the compositions are designed to be easy on the eye. He is always careful not to include too much detail, because this will take away the question-and-answer process that is vital to the viewer's engagment of the artwork.
