Louise Knapper, Los Angeles Member Since May 2012 Artist Statement I am a native Louisianian but have lived in Los Angeles for the past 51 years. I've loved art all of my life. At an early age I started sketching & coloring with crayons and writing poetry. My hobbies are painting, all mediums and writing. I have a love for Folk Art because I can bring memories of my childhood back to life. After retiring from LAUSD a few years ago, I picked up the camera and started taking pictures of flowers, trees and plants in my garden or any nature scenery that interested me along my daily walk in the park. A few years ago I was diagnosed with cancer and went through surgery, chemo and the whole bit. Thereafter, It seem that my painting and writing skills improved tremendously. I took a short course in watercolor and loved it. Some of my Folk Art were abstracted from my book, “BACK WHEN”. You can also find my writings as well as excerpts from my book at USADEEPSOUTH.com. I am also a member of the Oasis Actors Studio and the Oasis Chorale at my local senior center. I am a Storyteller and a amateur photographer as well.
