Artist Statement Karen King is an artist based in Newton, IA. Her family introduced her to art as a very young child, captivating her ever since. Mostly self taught, Karen also has taken classes to perfect her talents. She concentrates in the area of portrait drawings. She loves to capture her subject's expressions.

Her new found love is oil painting. For each portrait, Karen focuses on her subject's relationship to the elements rather than painting by metaphor. She prides herself on inventing new scenes to consider her subject. Her fascination toward art has always tilted toward nature, particularly trees and flowers. This trait is obvious from how she utilizes color to fully express her vision.
