Description This piece was a departure from my typical approach. It combines an underpainting on canvas board in addition to paper 'mosaic tiles' of other paintings I've been carrying around for years. I then applied five glass tiles at the end. If you look closely, you can even see the live oaks from my backyard in the reflection.
Rebecca Wise Girson, Orange Park, Florida Member Since September 2009 Artist Statement I remember it well. The year was 2002 and I'd had it. Ready to leave my corporate job behind without having another, I sought 'professional' help in order to get the validation I needed for quitting. "What did you used to do for fun as a child?" she asked as I sat there looking at the books on her bookcase noticing that I had read about half of them. "I used to draw," I said and I told her of the countless hours I spent drawing princesses and eyeballs. "You need more child-like joy in your life. I think you should try painting." Painting? OK. So I bought a set of paints, some paper and brushes and, you guessed it- I found my joy. And in case you're wondering, I did end up leaving that company (a year later). And, yes, I am still working in the corporate world. But now I'm an ARTIST who happens to also have a day job and, ironically, I have my old day job to thank.
