Description This piece was a departure from my typical approach. It combines an underpainting on canvas board in addition to paper 'mosaic tiles' of other paintings I've been carrying around for years. I then applied five glass tiles at the end. If you look closely, you can even see the live oaks from my backyard in the reflection.

Artist Statement I remember it well. The year was 2002 and I'd had it. Ready to leave my corporate job behind without having another, I sought 'professional' help in order to get the validation I needed for quitting. "What did you used to do for fun as a child?" she asked as I sat there looking at the books on her bookcase noticing that I had read about half of them. "I used to draw," I said and I told her of the countless hours I spent drawing princesses and eyeballs. "You need more child-like joy in your life. I think you should try painting." Painting? OK. So I bought a set of paints, some paper and brushes and, you guessed it- I found my joy. And in case you're wondering, I did end up leaving that company (a year later). And, yes, I am still working in the corporate world. But now I'm an ARTIST who happens to also have a day job and, ironically, I have my old day job to thank.
