Artist Statement My name is Velvet Tetrault, and I am an acrylic artist. I have a website at www.TetraultArtStudio.com. My favorite style of painting is representational. I paint because I have a strong desire to express in paint the images that arise in my mind or that I see in a photograph. Sometimes a section of a photo or something I see gives me an idea that I want to combine and bring together with another image as a visual statement. I paint a range of fine art subjects, including wildlife, landscape, still life, florals, and figurative art. My paint mediums have ranged from acrylic, mixed media, and oil, to watercolor, but now I paint only in acrylic. I don’t have a favorite subject, but the subjects I favor are those where my feelings are the strongest about the images: their form, function, or what emotion they portray. When I paint animals and birds, it is done for both the beauty of the animal and the sense of love and warmth I feel when I think of them. I express conflicting ideas and emotions through my allegorical painting.

When people look at my work, I would like them to experience the same feelings that I felt when I first imagined it, or to stop and think about the meaning behind the images. But most of all, I feel elated when someone looks at one of my paintings and finds something about it that really attracts them or moves them.
