Artist Statement Emily Scanlon was born and raised in Norwalk, CT. Throughout high school years, she took drawing and painting classes at Silvermine Art Guild, then attended Lasell Jr. College in Newton, Mass and received an associates degree in Art. She worked as a freelance artist for local entrepreneurs, magazines, and businesses. In 1978, she married Rev. James Scanlon, pastor of Blessed Assurance Prayer Community a Christian ministry in Norwalk. In 1980, upon receiving a bachelor’s degree from the University of Bridgeport in Art Education, Emily taught all grade levels in several schools in Fairfield County until her three children were born.
The family moved to Stratford in 1985 until finding a permanent location for the ministry in 1989, where they still reside today in Trumbull, CT. Longing to teach again, but also wanting to be home with her children, Emily received a degree in Early Childhood Education from Housatonic Community College and opened Blessed Lambs Preschool in 1992 at the same location. For all these years in the ministry, her passion has been teaching children of all ages, many underprivileged, that all things are possible with God, and to provide the opportunity through art and music to explore and discover their own creativity bringing self-worth and hope in the process.
