Artist Statement My artworks start with a landscape or detail I find compelling, which I capture as a digital photograph. The subjects are mostly landscapes or natural objects in Washington County, NY, where I live. To create repeat patterns, I copy, flip and rotate a selected area of a photograph so that the pieces fit together seamlessly to simulate a complete and mysteriously ordered universe. A limited number of coherent, non-disjointed "wallpaper" patterns can be made. These images each contain a unique pattern that arises from the alignment of components of the original photograph. The patterns, often beautiful and intricate, are perceived as abstract, while the details are seen as photographic.
