Description This painting was inspired by a spiritual vision. The figure is the being I call Trickster, and I see him often. Its not easy to paint spiritual visions, because you dont see them on an ordinary, physical level. Nevertheless, this is basically how he looks when he appears to me.I call this Death and Rebirth because he showed me a dead world. Everything was dead and desolate, and I understood this to be a result of the devastation our species is currently wreaking on the planet. But then I was taken through a tunnel (a birth canal?), and we emerged in a new world, filled with new, vibrant colors and burgeoning with life. This was the new world that must be born of the old. There are two suns in this sky. A Hopi prophecy says, When the Blue Star Kachina makes its appearance in the heavens, the Fifth World will emerge. To me, this has always been a second sun. And so here it is, in the newly transformed world, symbolized by the metamorphosis of the butterfly.
