Artist Statement Thanks for stopping by!

I hope that you are inspired and refreshed as you view my paintings. I am so grateful for the opportunity to share my artwork with you. I am truly passionate about painting. I have a studio in my home with plenty of natural light coming in, it is the perfect room for creating artwork.

I have loved painting and drawing since before I started school. When I was a little girl my kindergarten teacher told my Mom that I was drawing and coloring flowers on people's hats and buttons on their coats during art. That statement seemed to be an indication that I had a future as an artist.

Originally I had pursued a career as an English equestrian, a hunter jumper, training horses. I owned a horse when I was a teenager, then got back to riding after raising my two sons. As I got back into training while doing the paintings you see in my gallery, my right knee began hurting so I stopped riding. I found that the career that I thought that I wanted seemed too rugged, so I turned whole heartedly to my art. I had never stopped painting, so it was just natural to keep right on going.

I had taken seven art courses in High School and tutoring from a friend attending an art college during my college days, and had already had my own mural business, so I made the transition of doing more canvas paintings on a regular basis.

I have a very extensive library of garden, tree, and landscape books, as well as books about master artists like Monet, Renoir, Sisley and Pissarro, and stacks of interior design magazines and books. These often serve as inspiration to stir up the gift and get me going in a direction. I will start looking through books, and something will suddenly grab my attention. I will look at a photo, and get an idea from it and just start creating. Sometimes just a color or part of a pattern in a photograph will start me picking up my brushes and drawing things on a canvas with paint. I don't always know where it's going to go but it is so much fun to just improvise in this way and just see what happens.

Other times I prefer to have a more definite plan, but I always take my brushes and make things look the way I want them to look, even if it takes all day! That is the fun of creating my own designs. There are imperfections in my paintings, but that is the human element of a created work. I've always said that if you want a painting, the imperfection is the beauty of it. If you want something that looks like a photograph, go get a camera and take a photo. To learn more about my journey as an artist, visit my website at leeannzirbesart.com.
