Artist Statement My art has been called pop surrealism, classical realism and hyper realism. I do not know that I am any of those things. I paint and sculpt those images that have made such an impact on me that I can feel nothing else but the emotion of the piece. Sometimes that emotion is tranquility as in “Finch” or desperation as in “Clown”.

A few of my pieces are meant to be commentaries on others works or artists as in “Awakened from ignorance by a bee circling a bonsai” which is a commentary on the work “Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bee around a Pomegranate a Second Before Awakening” of Salvador Dali; my intention with the piece is to imply that unlike awakening in a dream; chance encounters cause you to awaken in your life and feel the true beauty inherent in every moment.

To quote Renoir “I’m not interested in the relationship of color or form or anything else. I’m interested only in expressing basic human emotions: tragedy, ecstasy, doom, and so on.”

About me

Christopher Vaughan was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. He began his art career at the age of 10 with drawings and recorded art pieces. He has painted in acrylics, sculpted in clay and stone; and now prefers digital imagery because it allows him the freedom to express the core values of his work emotion. He rarely refers to himself in the third person.
