Artist Statement Gail Russell has lived in her home over looking the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in Northern New Mexico for over thirty years. She shares her studio home with Maya the green wing macaw, Lily the courageous dog, and Lincoln, the cat therapist.

Her photographs have won awards, been seen in galleries, on the pages of magazines and in museums, national and regional shows and in the homes of collectors for the past thirty five years.

In 1987 Gail, with Lakota elder Nelie Red Owl, of Pine Ridge South Dakota founded the Adopt Grandparent Program a non profit program that helped elders in need on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota and also Native Elders in Northern New mexico.
In 2001 she retired from the program after administering it for fifteen years, ( the program was carried on by an organization in Wisconsin. )

“ Over the last few years, I have been able to concentrate on my art, enjoy my life with friends and animals, be part of Las Comadres Gallery, a women’s cooperative, and THe Great Western Art Gallery in Denver, and inbetween, I serve as a Commisioner on the Atalaya Acequia..”

I have been a Dedicated Valentine Loyalist since I was very young..
In fact, I feel that setting aside one day of the year to the energy and experience of Love is just not enough!
I think that every day, somewhere, is Valentine's day....
