Artist Statement I have done course in commercial art and a degree in english literature. Last 25 years I was working as freelance graphic designer and now I have turned to fine art for full time. Reading serious literature and listening to Indian classical music has helped me tremendously to unravel my visual language.

The vibrant colours, the lines, the shapes, the shades, the tonal variations and the temperament of nature around drives me to pick up the brush to paint. My paintings are my inner voice rather than a statement, hence i do take liberty to change the composition, colours, shades and shadows of what i see in front of me. More often i prefer painting en plein air, however not averse to make use of photo reference. Some times a photo gives inspiration to abstract as well and am fascinated more by the unplanned mystery that i explore. I am conversant with watercolors more but some of paintings are in acrylic also.

The Pune city i live in has still lot many surrounding villages that call me to do sketching. I like the village life simplicity of rustic surroundings to paint than the urban drama of city’s underbelly. Painting more with mind that is free of any constraint is what i call natural approach to any subject. This process of exploring leads to making a painter’s urge for satisfying experience. Of course, one should not dwell on ‘satisfaction’ to stop the work as John Keats says “ Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard sweeter, so yee soft pipes play on.”
