Artist Statement My passion for photography started in the mid-1980s, as an elementary school student. I began documenting the world around me with my first camera, a Kodak Disc. The passion continued, strengthening, with each new camera. I became a devoted Nikon user in the late 1990s. I currently shoot with both a Nikon D7000 and Nikon D800E.

With only two photography classes under my belt, I am a self-made photographer. My influences include: Ansel Adams, Dorothea Lange, Edward Weston and Art Wolfe and artists, such as Georgia O’Keefe. I have spent time studying their work as well as various techniques, working to develop my own vision and style.

I work to find the extraordinary in the ordinary, day-to-day sights that are often overlooked. I also strive to tell a story or capture the essence of my subject. I use techniques such as lighting, depth of field, and color contrast to get the desired results. Currently, my focus has been my work as a life-style photographer, enjoying the challenge of bringing my clients’ personalities into their portraits. I also recently added photographing small weddings to my repertoire which has been a wonderful adventure in storytelling.

I live with my family in North Chelmsford, MA. I am a full-time special educator at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, a full-time mother and am the owner of a small photography business, Nancy Dion Photography.
