Description The U.S. presidential election season of 2016 featured two unlikely 'outsider' candidates in the Republican and Democratic primaries. The Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump, took the country by storm with his populist message of nationalism, anti-immigration, and scapegoating. His anti-establishment stance and unapologetic - often politically-incorrect - style has ushered in a new era of political campaigning. The Democratic presidential candidate, Bernie Sanders, ran an equally impressive, anti-establishment campaign full of optimism, equality, and social justice. He eventually lost the primary to Democratic presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton. However, his defeated campaign left a huge void for millions of hopeful citizens, young and old, who crave the trustworthiness, decency, and respectability he brought to the political discourse and to this 2016 election cycle.

David Ralph, owner of Marco Image & Concept, is a contemporary artist and illustrator who lives in Greenbelt, Maryland, USA. David was born in 1964 in Red Bank, NJ and has been drawing since he was a toddler. His favorite topics to draw at the time were animals and sport figures. His first attempt at portraiture was as a 7-year old when he did a pencil drawing of baseball star, Roberto Clemente.
Today, David’s style of painting and illustration can best be described as geometric abstraction with influences ranging from the cubist paintings of Pablo Picasso to the primitive, cutout shapes of Henri Matisse. Other notable influences for David were Paul Cezanne’s fragmented landscapes and the geometrically-divided, flat-color canvases of Piet Mondrian.
To David, the simple elegance of the curve, the line, and the circle create the ideal two-dimensional plain of visual interest and appeal. And, to add color intensity, value contrast and balance to this space - along with repetition, texture and pattern - is to create a perfect harmony. It is to this goal that David sets down to sketch his next work of art.
David was once a member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society and has displayed his work at Strathmore Hall in Bethesda, MD, Montpelier Mansion in Laurel, MD, the New Deal Café in Greenbelt, MD and at the Greenbelt Labor Day Festival.
The most common themes of David Ralph’s paintings and illustrations are the female figure, nature, music, people and sports.
