Artist Statement As with most artists, I've been infected with the art bug since I was a child. I don't know whether I love doing art or do it to keep from going mad. Is it ego, the creative muse, or a gift from God? In any case, "doing art" sometimes is all of the above. I love the work, however. I painted the "Electric Lion" in 1972 (see my Imagekind Gallery). Normally, I only present recent work, but that painting continues to be a favorite of my audience, and it did launch me into the wildlife genre. The original is in my private collection. From that day forward I became an animal painter for all the reasons one might suspect, starting with a fascination with all things in nature. Again, like most artists I have sold work in galleries, at shows, out of my studio, and in recent years online. But I sell work only to make room in my personal gallery for more paintings because as an early mentor taught me, "you can't eat them." Other mentors, including Professor Hard Knocks, has taught me to ignore the critics and keep painting from the heart. If a young artist will do that, he or she will be glad someday that they too were infected with the art bug.
