Description This painting was based on a photograph of a woman from Ethiopia. In the original photograph, her body was being painted in preparation for a ceremony. I found her expression and posture compelling, so I painted her without her elaborate jewelry and face paint, to accentuate the woman underneath. I added the stark white scenery for a pleasing contrast.

This current series was produced in 2008 - 2009. It explores several themes: the human expression, the nature of light, texture, the background as a subject in its own right, and using a variety of techniques for applying oil paint.
