Artist Statement Janet's passion for art began in 1992 as a teenager with her very first art class. Her as-yet undiscovered talent was cultured and prodded by a perceptive art teacher. With his support, she won her first art contest at the end of that semester-long class with a graphite drawing, winning a cash prize and display of her art in a local restaurant.

For years her talents languished, the time slated for their pursuit being cast off in favor of family and work, but in 2000, her husband gave her back the gift of creation by setting her up with a wide array of paints, brushes, canvases, and instructional books. She began that first day, producing two paintings that surprised everyone. Her success fueled the fire, and she began to paint in earnest.

Space, time, and the addition of several parrots to her life kept her limited to certain types of media which were space-conscious and did not give off harmful fumes that might harm her birds. With the discovery of powerful software and graphic tablets, she understood that she could do away with the mess and space requirements and switched almost excluseively to "digital oils." This allows art to be manipulated and created exactly as it could with real tools and media.

Freed from her constraints, Janet has begun to delve into many subjects in many virtual media, such as digital oils, pastels, watercolors, and more. Her primary focus is on natural objects, landscapes, animals, but she finds joy and comfort in manipulating photos of architecture and historic places that exhibit symmetry and grace.

Currently, she and her husband are in development of a gallery focusing on the landscape, wildlife, and spirit of the Hill Country of Central Texas.
