Description This is an actual Dirigible. Unlike a blimp that is just a big balloon, the dirigible has a rigid construction frame work on the inside. The modern dirigible is more efficient than the airships of the 30's like the Hindenburg or USS Macon. This particular ship was slated to do a few days of science research in the Puget Sound identifying specific whales and their pods.(groups) Able to hover and stay in the air for long periods the airship is suited for this type of work and other work as well.
Gene Ritchhart Ritchhart, Arlington, Wa. Member Since July 2010 Artist Statement I was born in july of 1955 in San Diego, Ca. My dad was career Navy so I pretty much grew up around Naval Air Staions on the west coast.I graduated El Cajon High School in El Cajon, Ca in 1974 and enlisted in the Army. I spent most of my time in Mainz, West Germany. My job in the army was as a mechanized infantry driver, driving the old armoured personnel carriers. I came back home and got out of the army and used my GI Bill to get an AA degree in art. My 3rd try at marriage was apparently the right one as my wife has put up with me now for 22 years. She's OK. We make our home in Arlington, Wa. now; at the foot hills of the Cascade Mountains.
