Artist Statement I was born June 30 '8, at home her in Cali. my parents split when I was 3 and my mom took me to Canada with her were I spent the next 19 yrs. in Nelson B.C.
I am a self toght artist over all, I never went to school to LEARN art Ive been drawing since I was 5 when my mom would give me a pen from her purse when we went out to keep me from fussing @ the table, I would draw on the napkins.
In my grade school yrs I attended the Nelson Waldorff School which is a very art influenced cariculum that forces you to learn calligraphy, illustration & and beautification, as you literally make your text book as the year goes on. In retrospect I wish the school had gone passed grade 8, my high school yrs weren't nearly as informative.
I actually didn't do well in my high-school art class, feeling unchallenged after Waldorff I got, a C+ or some crap, but I made up for it buy getting suspended for two weeks w/ a third week of community service @ the school bingo hall, for tagging up the washroom. It was a set-up, but I caught on quick and made them work for the bust. The principle spent the rest of the day interigating me, he searched my locker and my person several times trying to find the maker in question ( as an artist I had a drawing pad and an assortment of pencils and markers w/ me @ all times). Even after producing the fat Jiffy from my sock I still refused to take responsibility for the crappy tags the jocks did in the locker rooms, the principle admitted they didn't look like mine but perhaps an accomplice? "Hell no!" I said "Only a jock would turn the word 'varsity' into a tag!" They were pissed. Moral: 'it aint a crime if you don't get caught.'
You may have guessed I'm heavily influenced by graffiti, love it, other influences are Da Vinci, Bosch, Van Gogh's early work, Mc Farlain, Frazetta, Vaun Bhodi, Woodrogh, Wu-Tang, Q. Terentino, P. Floyd, and unknown Japenese masters.
I did a lot of tagging and 'bombing' in Germany when I worked @ the Expo 2000 in Hannover, the boys up in Hamburg had a nice flavor to there work. "Ich libe fur hip-hop" heh heh, yeah boy! Y'all know who you are!
Shout out to my homegirl Madja, my one true friend over there.
Now I'm down here in Cali. were I was born, making a good living as a fine carpenter, designer and artist. The north coast of California is a thing of beauty and I'm blessed to have been conceived and born here.
LOVE ME ! FOR I LOVE YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!
Sincerely, Benjamin D. "Benny Bones" Abell
