Description There exist ancient beliefs that good and bad dreams hover in the night air as we sleep. Native American dream catchers were created to filter these dreams, allowing the good to gently pass through, and the bad to become tangled and ultimately dissolved with the light of each new day.I wish that we could capture the nightmares that threaten a childs sleep and allow only beautiful thoughts to visit them in their slumber. This is among my favorites because of it's personal origins and inspiration!15 % of the cost of this piece will be donated to the Art For Cancer group, and specifically sent to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Art has the power to heal! I appreciate your interest and support!!
Jude Harzer, Jersey Shore Member Since February 2008 Artist Statement For what seems like most of my life, I have experienced the world as an endless stream of images that I wanted to capture and recreate. I visually dissect objects into shapes, colors, lines and texture and perceive the world in terms of relationships, layers and parts, rather than as a single entity. My art allows me to physically ‘isolate’ these connections.
I believe one of my greatest ‘gifts’ is my ability to ‘see’ beauty in the world around me, even when it seems most difficult to find. As a mother and educator, I am surrounded by my preferred subject matter, and my most treasured source of inspiration: children. My recent series, entitled, ‘Fly’, is ,in essence, about the belief that when children are nurtured and encouraged as individuals, they will discover their ability to grow and achieve. My work explores the desire to preserve the child like spirit in all of us!
I paint primarily with oils and have recently begun to explore the technique of collage, incorporating a variety of papers, aluminum, silver leaf and other materials into my work. I use an array of patterns and colors, in a quilt like motif, to achieve rich texture and a ‘loose’ visual narrative. My recent works are inspired by the notion that as we dream,we possess the power to shape our "reality."
"May you dream, find beauty and fly!"
