Epimenio Gonzalez, South Gate Member Since August 2011 Artist Statement Ever since I was a little boy I had an interest in the Visual Arts. Being the third oldest in a family of six children money was always scarce. I remember my parents were unable to buy me GI Joe’s so I decided I would create my own action figures and the fortress out of cardboard, including an elevator.
In high school and in college my favorite subjects were Art and Art History, naturally. In college I majored in Architecture but dropped out for the pursuit of a career in selling life insurance. After a brief career as a life insurance salesman I spent the next thirteen years working in the Banking Industry. After I was laid off from the bank I decided I would give Real Estate Sales a try. As rewarding as both careers in Banking and Real Estate have been for me I always felt I was swimming against the current. Nothing felt like it was flowing
In 2012 I woke up to my true calling, the arts. I stopped selling Real Estate and decided to pursue my dream of being an artist. Though I am mostly self-taught I have been taking classes at a local college.
I hope you get to experience a sense of joy from at least one of my pieces. That is my reward and my gift to you. Peace and Blessings!!!
