Description Japanese calligraphy - Chinese characters (kanji) meaning Freedom: 'Jiyu', in Japanese. This is a piece I have done a few years ago. I presented it to a monthly contest organized by the Japanese female magazine 'Oggi' that was curated by Sooun Takeda.

Artist Statement Les MarquIz is a French native female artist living in Tokyo.

She is developing abstract expressions from traditional Japanese calligraphy. Working with ink, paper, sometimes fabric, she create images inspired by nature, beauty and human interactions. Those pieces of art are part of Les MarquIz, a project inspired by a trip to the Marquesas Islands, in Polynesia. They are meant to be contemplated, seen, and re-seen, raising infinite possibilities of interpretations and emotions.
