Artist Statement Helena V. de Vengoechea is a photographer, based in New York City, looking to enhance her art and commercial photography career. She worked as a Photographer, Graphic Designer or Art Director at Ralph Lauren, WMI, Simmons Jewelry Co, Travel & Leisure, City magazine and more. She also owns a photography business, which sells her photos as fine prints as well as provides event, portrait and still-life photography services in the metro area.

Helena was born in Caracas, Venezuela and lived there till she was five years old. Early in her childhood a camera was given to her, which she constantly used to shoot and create montages. In 1980 her parents moved her from South America to Connecticut. She grew up there and then studied photography for two years at the University of Colorado at Boulder. While studying at the university she learned about how difficult it is to survive as a full-time artist. That being so, she switched her major to creative advertising because she was drawn to graphic visuals that continue to inspire her today. After graduation she returned to the east coast to go to communication design school at Parsons School of Design in NYC and to pursue her dream as an artist.
