Sarah Mancuso, Hamamatsu, Japan Member Since June 2007 Artist Statement I am a 23-year-old college graduate originally from Western NY. I recently graduated from Oberlin College, where I studied social psychology and East Asian Studies, with a concentration in Japanese studies, and a minor in religion to boot. After college, I joined AmeriCorps for one year working with a Big Brothers Big Sisters organization to help find mentors for children with incarcerated parents. In August, I arrived in Japan, and will be teaching English in Hamamatsu for the next 1-3 years. After that, graduate school is somewhere in the works, preferably in Dublin, Ireland.
I started photography in high school with two years of B&W film classes. Then after four years of college when I was too busy to have hobbies, I’ve picked it back up again, and in the process I’ve switched to digital.
I have sort of a purest approach to photography–I rarely edit the pictures I take, and most of the effects you see in my photography come straight from the camera at the time the picture is taken. There’s something I find really exciting about getting a great photo right from the lens.
