Gail Baker, Issaquah, Washington
Member Since December 2008
Artist Statement Gail paints and teaches painting, drawing, collage, sculpture, visual journaling, and movement as a gateway to creative process. She makes assemblages that reveal a quirky sense of humor. She has just designed a new line of jewelry... funky and classy.
In all of this, Gail knows there are no limits. The depth of exploration of the internal world is infinite, and so it becomes exploration of the macrocosm. Her work focuses on sensations and the narrative that communicates those sensations through color and form. There is a fascination with the mystery of life, its challenges, joy, and magic. In order to portray the immensity of her perceptions, she uses paint, gold leaf, layers of transparent mediums, oil pastels, ink, collage pieces, and found objects.
Yoga, hiking, and meditation are essential to Gail's art. Without movement and breath, her work lacks life. Body, mind, and spirit are integrated.
Gail teaches painting from the soul, drawing, and visual journaling in her studio in issaquah. She also teaches for Seniors Making Art in King County, the Kirkland Arts Center, and Mercer View Community Center on Mercer Island.
Namaste.
